King Edward Memorial Hospital (KEM Hospital) is a government municipal teaching hospital located at Acharya Donde Marg, Parel, Mumbai, Maharashtra, founded in 1926 and run by the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai (MCGM). The hospital campus has multiple buildings: the Old Building, New Building, OC Building, and the CVTC (Cardio-Vascular Thoracic Centre) Building. How to Book an Appointment
KEM Hospital Mumbai currently operates a walk-in OPD system. There is no centralised online appointment booking portal for KEM Hospital. Patients must register directly at the OPD registration counter on the day of their visit. The OPD registration counter opens at 8:00 AM. For morning session OPDs (8:00 AM to 10:30 AM) patients should arrive by 7:30 AM to complete registration before the OPD starts. For afternoon session OPDs (1:30 PM to 3:30 PM) registration opens at around 1:00 PM.

Important Information for Patients
KEM Hospital is spread across multiple buildings on the Parel campus. The Old Building, New Building, OC Building (Orthopaedic Centre), and the CVTC Building each house different OPD departments. Knowing your OPD building and room number before arriving saves considerable time on a busy day. The OPD list published on kem.edu includes room numbers for every department, and it is worth writing down your specific OPD location before you leave home.
The morning OPD session opens at 8:00 AM. Most high-demand departments such as General Surgery, Medical OPD, Orthopaedics, and Gynaecology see very heavy footfall. Arriving by 7:30 AM is strongly advised for these departments to secure your token before the queue grows. The afternoon session begins at 1:30 PM; for afternoon OPDs, arriving by 1:00 PM is sufficient in most cases.
Carry all previous OPD cards, prescriptions, investigation reports, and discharge summaries from earlier visits or admissions. For follow-up appointments, bring the OPD card issued on your first visit as it contains your registration number and medical history from prior consultations. For specialist clinics such as Epilepsy, Congenital Heart, or Genetics, patients are generally referred from the General Medicine, Paediatrics, or Surgery OPD first; direct walk-in access to some specialist clinics may require a referral slip from the general OPD on the same day.
OPD consultation and most services at KEM Hospital are free or at nominal cost as it is a municipal institution.
